The activities of  the IWC of Rome

Club activities covers a wide range of interests and are regularly held on a monthly basis in Groups, defined at the beginning of the social year during the first meeting of the Committee.
The members can choose which group to join, according to their interests, during the monthly meeting of October.

Please find below the list of activities carried out by the Groups of the Club:
Art
In a city like Rome, a Group that deals with art has unlimited options: the offer is extremely varied in terms of museums , exhibitions , not to mention the archaeological sites, buildings and churches, representing a unique art heritage .
The Group is often able to obtain special permits to visit places not usually open to the public and occasionally organizes trips out of town.

Bridge
Bridge is an historical group, active since the early years of the Club. Members are all very experienced in the art of bidding and they organize monthly gaming tables at their homes, by rotation.

Burraco
Following the trend wide spreading in our cities, Burraco is now strongly established also in our Club and this year an additional group has been created . The group of “experts” and the one of ” beginners are engaged in monthly tournaments.

Culture and Art gourmet
This year the members of the group are following a real journey along the culture and art of gastronomy, starting from the Kitchen of the Ancient Rome to arrive gradually to the present days, passing by the major historical periods. It is now widely acknowledged that gastronomy, like uses and customs, is a characteristic element of people culture in each time frame.. This is the concept highlighted in the conference and the video presented during the meeting, before members are introduced to the pleasures of the table.

Decoration
This group generally gather those members who have a strong creative talent. It meets on a monthly basis at members’ houses to implement many creations, using various techniques, the most diverse materials and of course a lot of imagination. The makings are manifold, ranging from jewelry to Christmas decorations, from painted easter eggs to floral arrangements , etc..

Excursions
The Group organizes excursions during year: short, medium and long range tours.

Literature
The meetings of the literature group aim to deepening the knowledge of the life and works of various authors, classic or contemporary, poets or novelists . The author’s choice is usually predetermined based on a specific program, but the conversation might also starts from a book read by a member or from the best-seller of the moment. Occasionally, artists are invited to talk about their works.

Music
The meetings of the group are dedicated to the members who not only love listening to music, but also want to refine or deepen their level of musical knowledge. Meetings are held monthly at the members houses and are mainly focused on classic music, opera or symphony, Italian or foreign, but they also cover other types of music. The program include an interesting lecture about the author and listening to the music on the CD, or occasionally live, thanks to the participation of artists invited to the meeting.

Walking
The group’s goal is “to walk” in the green of Villas and Parks inside and nearby the city of Rome. Two hours of healthy movement to breathe fresh air, relax and “socialize” with other members.

French conversation
The French Conversation Group meets to discuss topics of literature and current affairs in French.

English conversation
The English Conversation Group meets to talk about various current topics in English.

Italian conversation
The Italian Conversation meetings are aimed to those foreign members who want to improve their knowledge of the Italian language and culture.

Spanish conversation
The Spanish Conversation Group meets to deepen their knowledge of Spanish and Latin American culture through literary works in prose and verse.
